The character of this terrain defines our style of winemaking. The Valley of Guadalupe is a wine region in Baja California, Mexico, established thanks to franciscan order.

The Valley is equivalent to two thirds of Napa Valley in extension and also because of its climate conditions, similar to that of Southwest France,.
We plant and harvest five varieties of grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Sauvignon Blanc. We also produce wines with other styles that flourish in other climates like Chenin Blanc, Syrah and Chardonnay.

The Bordeaux varieties express the terroir of the Guadalupe Valley with finesse and distinction.

  • The commercial production of wine in Baja California only started by the end of 1888.
  • The first Monte Xanic wines were produced in 1988. We hit the market with 6,200 cases of Chenin Colombard and Cabernet Sauvignon.
  • The brand name is a combination of the words: “Monte” (Mountain) and “Xanic” (flowers blooming after the first rain). This last word comes from the Cora natives located on the coast of Northwest Mexico.
  • Monte Xanic has been an undisputed leader in promoting and fostering wine culture in Mexico and around the world where it is available, such as the United States of America, Canada, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Spain, Italy, Australia and Hong Kong, among others.
  • Doctor Hans Backhoff Escudero, was the winery´s head winemaker for 30 years until his death in 2017.
  • Monte Xanic’s winery was designed by renowned architect: Juan Garduño. The development of the winery was the result of international research in order to combine and integrate the wine production process with the visitor’s experience.
  • The barrel room was designed by architect Diego Villaseñor. It has the capacity to store 4,500 barrels, all under natural optimal conditions of temperature and humidity.
